Do I Really Need Physiotherapy?

One common misconception is that only people who sustained physical injuries, such as athletes or people involved in serious accidents that limit their mobility, need physiotherapy. You might occasionally be suffering from a condition without being aware that physiotherapy can help. It is always preferable to take the necessary steps to prevent further injury or illness.

Here are some signs you might need physiotherapy:

You have sustained an injury

Physiotherapy is necessary if you have any type of tissue injury, such as a sprain, fracture, strain, or other type of injury. Your doctor may suggest physiotherapy if you have sustained an injury, even if you are not an athlete. Physiotherapy can help speed up your recovery and strengthen your muscles.

Your pain keeps coming back

If you have an injury, you should anticipate some level of discomfort until it has healed completely. However, in some cases, the pain may return after some time and become chronic. Chronic pain can interfere with your daily activities. Physiotherapy can help manage your pain better and regain movement in the affected area.

You feel stiff or tight

You may want to think about physiotherapy if you feel restricted in your movement or less flexible than you once were. Your physiotherapist can evaluate your condition, you will be recommended a series of strengthening and stretching exercises, in order to improve your muscle strength and flexibility.

You just went through surgery

Physiotherapy after surgery may be required for a variety of procedures, including cardiac, thoracic, orthopedic, and neurological surgeries. Physiotherapy can be used to treat the effects of these kinds of surgeries. Following the patient’s discharge from the  hospital, the physician might suggest physiotherapy as a form of rehabilitation.

You always feel dizzy or loss your balance

Loss of balance, vertigo and dizziness may be caused by dysfunction of the inner ear. The inner ear is an essential part of the vestibular system that helps to maintain the body’s balance. Physiotherapy can use various rehabilitation exercises to help improve any symptoms you may be experiencing due to vestibular system dysfunction.

These are just a few reasons for why you might need physiotherapy. Physiotherapy can benefit people of all ages with various conditions. Your physiotherapist will assess your condition and develop a treatment plan that is customized for you.
